When should I book my newborn session?

You should book your newborn session while you are still pregnant.  Your second trimester is the perfect time.  I only accept a couple newborns per month so I do tend to book up months in advance.  After your sessions is reserved, and the deposit paid, I will save your spot based on your due date.  Obviously, babies come when they want to, so I do ask that you notify me as soon as the baby arrives or you have a scheduled induction date.  Your session will the be the weekend of or after birth.  I do request that you do not make plans after the baby's arrival until your session date has been planned.

WHEN Do you hold your sessions?

All of my sessions are held on the weekends year round or evenings during the spring - summer.  Outdoor sessions are held aprox 1 hour prior to sunset.  This is when the lighting is best and will give your skin that beautiful glow.  Mid day is the worst time for portraits and is never recommended. Newborn and baby studio sessions are held on Saturday and Sunday mornings or early afternoon.

WHere will my session take place?

Newborn - Newborn sessions are held in my home studio located just outside the town of Culpeper (aprox. 5 minutes off Rte 29).  My basement is exclusively used for my photography work.

Baby/1st birthday - Baby and 1st birthday cake smashes are also held in my home studio.

Outdoor sessions - Outdoor sessions can be held in a few different locations.  A majority of my sessions are held on my personal property.  We have 10 acres which provides a beautiful backdrop for your portraits (most of the images seen here are taken on our property).  I also frequently use Mountain Run Lake Park or another local Culpeper location. I'm always open to new locations, so please do not hesitate to provide recommendations.

I do occasionally travel to areas outside of Culpeper.  A travel fee will be added to anywhere outside a 15 mile radius of 22701.  Travel fee is based on the distance of travel.

What do I need to bring for my session?

Newborns - Since I provide everything needed for the session the only requests I ask is a soothie pacifier, extra blankets and wipes. Everything else will be provided.  If you have something you would like to incorporate into the session, please let me know prior so I can plan how to use it.  A prep package will be sent to you so you know how to prepare for the session.

Babies/Children - I ask that you bring a non messy snack/drink (raisins, etc).  It is also good to bring any comfort item, toy, lovie or blanket.  Often times this helps the child feel more comfortable if they are feeling uneasy.

Family - Nothing needed except those items mentioned in "babies/children."

WHAT If the weather is bad?

If the weather is bad, I will notifiy you via email or text that day.  We will then find a date that works for both parties ASAP.  Changes to your session date is based on my discretiononly.

Creative Fees & Final Payments

Creative fees are non refundable and due upon booking your session to hold your spot. If your fee is not received within the time frame specified on your invoice your spot will be opened back up.  Creative fees cannot be applied to future sessions or transferred to another party should you need to cancel.

All digital and product collections are selected during your reveal night and payment is due in full at that time.  Payment plans are available with approved credit.

How long will my session last?

Session times depend on the type of session you have selected.

Newborns - Newborn sessions typically last 3-4 hours.  This gives us time to soothe, feed, and pose them just as you expect from your custom portrait session.

Babies/children - A standard child/baby session typically lasts 30 minutes to an hour.  This varies based on the child and their temperament.

Families - Family sessions typically last 45 minutes - 1 hour.

Mini Session - Mini sessions typically last between 15-30 minutes.

HOW would you describe your photography style?

Simple and timeless.  I wouldn't call myself a "prop heavy" or "trendy" photographer.  I like to keep things simple.  Capture the true essence of a newborn, true smiles of a child, and families being silly.  While I do get the "everyone smile and look at the camera" portraits, I wouldn't say this is the majority.  I like to capture things "as they are" and preserve the "right now."  I started my photography journey to capture my own children.  How they crickled their nose when they laughed, what their sleepy baby face looked like when they first woke up in the morning, and how they interacted with each other.  Its all part of the beauty I love to capture and want to do for you as well.
